The Mellon Humanities Summer Scholars Initiative at Xavier is a program designed to allow us to build and evaluate a model for both developing a healthy community college pipeline program and engaging students in the Humanities at Xavier and in New Orleans.
This is a one summer, Humanities based summer bridge-like program for targeted community college students. Students reside on campus for five weeks during the summer prior to their matriculation to Xavier.
The overarching goal of the Mellon Summer Humanities Immersions Program at Xavier is for participants to develop a deepened and informed appreciation for the Humanities as a field of study and disciplinary undertaking, and the development of a robust pipeline of potential community college student transfer pipeline into Xavier University of Louisiana.
Student participants (Mellon Humanities Scholars) upon successful completion of the program are granted guaranteed conditional admission to Xavier after completing their two-year degree requirements.
